What to Expect

We know that coming to a new church can be intimidating and that there are many things that may make a newcomer anxious. We have tried to create a comfortable environment where you can explore your faith and find God on your own terms. When you visit the Houston Vineyard, we promise:

  • We won’t embarrass you  – as our guest, we will respect your privacy
  • We won’t ask you for money – support comes from our regular attendees
  • We are normal people – seeking God, just like you!

Welcome
When you walk through the doors of the Houston Vineyard, our greeters will be ready to give you a bulletin with helpful information about today's service, answer your questions, help you settle your children, and direct you into the auditorium. You will notice that we enjoy a casual environment, so you don’t need to dress up to attend. If you get there a little early, we invite you to go to our CAFE where you will find free coffee, comfortable seating, and information on our church. There is a kids' area in the CAFE with books and crafts.

The bulletin will have a "Connecting Card" on the back. It's a way for us to know that you were here. If you'd like, please fill one out and take it to a greeter in the foyer. In return, we'll give you a welcome packet with a sample of music similar to what we sing as well as more information. And next week, if you come back, you'll have a printed nametag so that we can call you by name.

Worship
We start each service with a time of worship – usually lasting about 30 minutes. Primarily we do this through music, singing in both English and Spanish. Vineyard music is intimate and expressive as we communicate our hearts to God. We have the songs lyrics displayed on screens. We often incorporate other artistic forms in worship such as dance, drama or media presentations. You are free to stand or sit, sing in Spanish or English, or just listen. We want you to be comfortable. No one will judge you if you just sit back, and sip your coffee!

Announcements

A member of our community communicates a few things that we think could be of interest to the audience; upcoming classes, events, service opportunities, etc.

Message
We believe that the Bible is both relevant and meaningful for our lives today, and it is the primary way that God speaks to us. We usually have 30-40 minutes of practical teaching from the Bible.

Response to message

We believe that God can work in us and speak to us in supernatural ways; words of wisdom, prophecy, pictures, impressions, etc. We offer opportunities at the end of the message for our members to share.

Prayer
We fully expect that every time we get together, God is there – ready to show himself to us through the Holy Spirit. We always offer times at the end of each service for you to receive prayer for physical or emotional healing, as well as other concerns.

Programs for children and teens
On Sunday mornings during both services, we offer a nursery for young children through pre-school and children’s church for kindergarten - 5th grade. 6th-12th graders worship with the adults and then are dismissed to go to classes.

Communion
On the first Sunday of each month, children, youth and adults take communion together during our worship services. Children and youth are then dismissed to their classes.
